Head removal was necessary to get to the exhaust manifold.

After trying fruitlessly to get the engine mounts loosened, we tried another approach: Remove the entire cylinder head. However, the head bolts proved too strong for our impact wrenches.

 
Driver's seat removed.

With the front seat removed, only the seat leather cover, the motor, and the solenoids were saved. The seat hardware was rusted through badly on one side.

 
Mitch provides moral support.

Mitch happily consumed beer while watching us work. His buddy was eager to get to the bar to watch the Red Wings play that afternoon.

 
The closest thing to driving.

The other Mitch (the third person who purchased the car with Doug and Dan) gets one last grip of the wheel before we haul the car out of the garage for its last trip to the junk yard.

With almost all usuable parts removed (that we wanted) we started cleanup and prepared to move the car outdoors to make room for Doug's wife's car. We thought we were done at this point...
