August 13 through August 17 The Ohio Valley Region (aka the OVR) has planned many excursions and activities with a broad scope of interest for everyone. We will list the events by day and give a brief description throughout the pages of the booklet. In addition, there are many surprises awaiting all who attend. Arrive
early on Wednesday for a complimentary summer style barbeque sponsored
and hosted by the Ohio Valley Region. The barbeque will be held at the
hotel. This will be a perfect time for both new and seasoned members of
LCOC to gather for a time of fellowship, food and fun. A cash bar will
be available. After dinner, the hospitality room will be open for
friends from far and near. On Thursday, we will depart the hotel at 8:00 AM for the famous United States Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for a complimentary tour. In October 1922, the Airplane Engineering Division of the Army Signal Corps announced the planned opening of a "museum containing a most unique collection of various types of airplanes and aircraft engines." The fewer than 500 artifacts to be exhibited in the new museum filled one corner of one small hangar. On
Friday, potential activites are either a tour of the Franklin Park Conservatory or the Ohio Historical Center, the Ohio State House and the Ohio Theatre. Tour Choice #1: Franklin Park Conservatory Originally built in 1895, Franklin Park Conservatory is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it is a premier horticultural and educational institution showcasing exotic plant collections, special exhibitions, and spectacular Chihuly glass artworks. Tour Choice #2: Ohio Historical Center In 1885 a group of Ohioans established the Ohio State Archaeological and Historical Society, proclaiming in its charter the goal of preserving aspects of the state's past. These citizens realized that Ohio's numerous earthworks and significant ancient artifacts offered eloquent testimony about its prehistoric heritage. In addition, they wanted to document Ohio's contributions to the nation's growth and development. They were concerned that, without a statewide organization dedicated to the preservation of Ohio's history, much of the physical evidence of Ohio's past would be, at best, preserved by museums and libraries outside the state, or at worst, lost entirely. Friday evening: Margaritaville Party, Dinner & Auction at the hotel Join us for a Margaritaville-themed evening of fun with a deluxe tropical buffet consisting or Maple Brandy Pork and Jerk Spice Chicken with all the trimmings. A cash bar will be available. On Saturday, our concours will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the hotel parking area, which is beautifully landscaped. Our awards banquet will held in the hotel ballroom with special entertainment throughout the evening! For Sunday, you will not want to miss the driving tour through the beautiful countryside of Central Ohio. The tour will conclude at The Brennan Loft in London, Ohio which is the home of your Meet Chairperson. A complimentary farewell luncheon will feature cuisine from the restaurants of a famous Central Ohio department store, The F&R Lazarus Co. The menu will consist of chicken salad, quiche, fresh fruit, and dessert. A special room rate for LCOC members has been established at $117 per night. Room reservations must be made directly with the hotel at (614) 791-1000. Be sure to ask for the LCOC group rate. Meet packets can be ordered (sent via mail) from Edward and Joan Harants at (330) 225-2877 (be considerate of when you call) or email them at efhat832@verizon.net. ![]() For your convenience, the MichiganLCOC is hosting downloadable Meet Packets for the convenience of the LCOC members who use the Internet.
